I designed this piece so that each panel worked separately or together, but I've always thought of it as a triptych. I was taken with the way the mysterious orange spires of the bus transit center in downtown Seattle pierced the surrounding gray, as glimpsed from the highway.
In a way it's a love letter to those colors, even though I knew they might be tough to sell. What's painting if not an exploration of our ideas in the freest sense possible? All these years later, it finds an appreciative audience and owner.
