Panning For Gold Blindfold

Panning For Gold Blindfold, Gouache & Acrylic Collage on Watercolor Paper; 30" x 22"; 2008

This collage painting came out of a time of change in my personal life, during which I was seeking to redefine myself and simultaneously, my language of squares and rectangles. The squares eventually emerged, freed from their prior role in representing a real scene, in a new context of organic washes of color.

After years of using photographs I took on my travels as sources for my cityscapes, painting completely abstractly was new to me.  Relying solely on intuition was exhilarating.  I could trust my sense of balance and surprise. I felt like the painting's title.

Original collage painting available. Also: limited edition giclées of this work.
